Main Aims/Objectives

Present and discuss the main developments in the field of criminological research as well as the relevance of criminology today;
Describe and analyze the most recent criminal phenomena on a global and regional scale.

Specific Aims/Objectives

Identify and critically reflect on the main conceptual and methodological contributions to the study and analysis of criminal phenomena.
To highlight the main transformations that took place and continue to operate in today´s criminology, both in terms of research and training.
Identify the emergency conditions of the new manifestations of the criminal phenomenon.

Skills to be acquired

Develop skills of conceptual articulation and development of innovative hypotheses based on complex theoretical bases.
Acquisition of an integrating perspective of different frames of reference on the criminal phenomenon in its current manifestations.
Understanding the structure and dynamics of new criminologies.

Teaching Procedures

Audiovisual methods;
Expository classes of theoretical character;
Involve students in the different lines of CEJEA´s "Criminal Law and Criminology" IG;
Practical exercises.

Programme

I- The "new criminologies".
- The historical-epistemological conditions that created the conditions for the emergence, constitution and development of "new criminologies".
- Description of "new criminologies" and their epistemological and methodological characteristics:
1. Experimental criminology;
2. Developmental Criminology;
3. Preventive criminology;
4. Actuarial criminality;
5. Quantitative criminology;
6. Cartographic Criminology and Environmental Criminology;
7. Biosocial criminology and neuroscience
8. Integrative criminology.

Evaluation Type

Individual presentation of a critical reflection based on the documents indicated by the teachers;
A final exam.
