Presentation
The Master in Criminology Seeks primarily to promote advanced training and scientific research in the various areas - namely Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Statistics, Medicine and Law - that structure the Criminal Sciences. To do so, it is necessary to work on a more profound analysis and research capacity and on the apprehension of methods of scientific studies in order to strengthen the development of skills and independence in the field of personal work. The Master´s degree is obtained after the first part composed of 13 semestral curricular units (90 ECTS), taught over 3 semesters, and, in a second phase, after the subsequent elaboration, development and presentation of dissertation of a scientific nature (30 ECTS), in one semester, followed by its public defense.
Career Opportunities
The Master in Criminology gives qualifications to develop a professional activity in the scope of the services of the diverse police forces, the prison services and social reintegration, in the offices of lawyers, educational centers for juvenile delinquents, protection of children and young people, reception and assistance to victims in projects for the prevention and treatment of drug addiction and for scientific research. It also develops skills for activities related to criminological analysis, the elaboration and planning of criminal policies, the design and execution of programs for the prevention or design of social and criminal policies. The "Mestrado" is recognized by Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education by the law decree nº 11988/2013
