Main Aims/Objectives

This course will be given particular emphasis to the thermal performance of buildings, which will be evaluated and will be subject to minimum requirements, in order to promote the improvement of their thermal behavior, prevention of errors of construction and insure environmental comfort.

Specific Aims/Objectives

It is intended that students are able to understand the conceptual and constructive technical requirements to achieve improved energy performance of buildings.

Skills to be acquired

Knowing the compositions, methods of operation and obtain knowledge to dimension various building systems, in particular those related to the thermal performance of buildings housing (REH).

Teaching Procedures

This course has a weekly schooling of four hours, two are theoretical exposition and the remaining two hours are dedicated to performing practical work, which will be integrated into the ongoing evaluation.

Programme

THERMAL BEHAVIOR OF BUILDINGS (DL118/2013)
CHAPTER I - CLIMATE ZONES IN THE NATIONAL TERRITORY
Thermal performance of buildings. Thermal conductivity of building materials. thermal resistance. Characterization of climatic zones for winter and summer.
CHAPTER II - INDEX AND CHARACTERIZATION PARAMETERS
Evaluation of the quality of the insulation. Higrothermal considerations. Condensation and vapor. Nominal needed energy for heating; nominal needed energy for cooling; nominal needed energy for production of hot water; global primary energy needs; limitations to consider.
CHAPTER III - MEASUREMENT OF THERMAL PARAMETERS
Transmission coefficients; thermal inertia; minimum requisites of the thermal quality of the environment.
CHAPTER IV - CALCULATION OF ENERGY NEEDS
Method of calculating heating requirements, cooling and energy for domestic hot water preparation.
Demonstration of specific software.

Evaluation Type

Students perform rolling work on the subject taught in lectures. Continuous assessment includes the delivery and evaluation of its work in practical classes supplemented with a written theoretical / practical nature test.
